[Qemu-devel] virsh resume/qemu loadvm (from disk) latency

Dear all,

why does the resume time depend on the maximum amount of memory the instance is configured with? For a dump size of 500 MB resuming the instance takes 2/3/5 seconds for a virtual machine configured with 1/2/4 GB of RAM. I measure the time it takes for the 'virsh restore <file>' command to return. The numbers were collected on a Ubuntu 12.04 machine with kvm 1.0 and libvirt 0.9.8.

I would be interested in ways to cut the baseline overhead, i.e., the resume time should depend on the dump size and not on the maximum configured RAM size. At least not in the extend it does now (1 second increase in resume time per GB).

Thanks,
Thomas.
