I think currently we have:
(a) a bunch of local stuff I do before merging commits
[tests OSX, w32 crossbuild, Linux x86_64/arm/aarch64/ppc64be]
(b) Travis builds (linux)

Failures on (a) will cause me to reject a merge; failure
on (b) won't but I'll probably notice it not too long
after; anything else is "operator needs to post a buildfail
mail to the mailing list".

The usual issue with buildbots and the like is the admin
effort required to keep the various hosts up and in sync
with changes like new library dependencies (and also
to monitor the results...) We used to have a buildbot
setup but it bitrotted due to lack of admin. (My local
tests run on machines I have anyway plus the gcc compile
farm for the ppc box. There's a NetBSD box in the cfarm
but no FreeBSD.)

Fam or Paolo may have a better view of any future plans
for improvement.

thanks
