Interesting. This will need some thought.

Interesting. That might be reasonable too but would increase the scope
of this already large patchset even further.

Consider example below. EBADF means fd not writeable - remote exited
so that's benign. EFAULT means code bug. vhost has no idea there's
an fd though.
