Hello,
I took a look at Holger's Perl rewrite of Andrew's scripts. The script
has some nice features, but my overall impression isn't that great.
What I like:
* Perl has much fewer syntactic warts than bash/grep/awk/etc.
* Much nicer debugging support.
* Much better documented code.
* Faster (most certainly).
* Allows to work from within a sub-directory of the working tree.
[Do we want that?]
What I dislike:
* Monolithic script, more difficult to extend.
* Keeps some of the crappy parts of Andrew's scripts.
* Substitutes a bunch of scripts against a load of command line
switches. Not nice.
Also:
* Quilt can already do several additional things.
* Quilt works reasonably well.
* I am too lazy to rewrite from scratch unless the benefit is essential.
Let's see what Holger will say :)
Cheers,
Andreas.
