I tried building rp on an osx machine without pkg-config and it seems
configure fails because the PKG_CHECK_MODULES line doesn't expand and
while it is never executed (I used --without-xft) it isn't valid shell
syntax and it breaks anyway. I can't find an autoconf macro to check
if a macro is defined. Does anyone know of one?
