Follow-up Comment #1:
Sorry, this is not a bug in rdiff-backup. What has happened is that your
filesystem has inappropriately created the file 'hl' *before* rdiff-backup has
asked for it to be created with mkdir(). Thus, I am closing this bug report as
invalid.
Given that your paths are of the form '/s3/...', I am assuming you are using
the Amazon S3 service in some way. The bug could very well be in the
filesystem mechanism you are using to access the S3 service. If you care to
get rdiff-backup running on S3, please post details on your setup and
diagnostic information to the mailing list.
