I don't believe so - as it would be impossible to produce a diff if one file 
was compressed and the other wasn't. You would have to uncompress each file in 
turn in order to diff it, which is probably not good.  I believe the diffs 
themselves are compressed though.

I'm new to rdiff-backup and probably have a dumb question:

is it possible to have the mirror copy compressed (gz).  I didn't find an
option that does this in the man page...
