I'm in the process of planning a possible migration of some servers from
Solaris to Red Hat and I'd like some idea of how long an rdiff-backup run is
likely to take under the circumstances detailed below. I've been using
rdiff-backup for some time on two of my smaller solaris machines, but they take
all night to sync - so I've never bothered to try with the larger servers as it
would be impractical. I have also used it on my home linux machine where it
was much faster.
So.. can anyone give me an idea how long a nightly sync of the following setup
might take...
HARDWARE
1.5 GHz intel Pentium IV (maybe dual processor...), 1GB memory, Compaq Smart
Array (RAID - probably RAID 5)
OS
Red Hat 7.2 (I have good reasons for not using 8 or later yet - a third party
application that is only supported under RH7.2 by the vendor)
100Mbs HD link between servers (which will be on different sites)

Area being backed up will be 100GB on the RAID array (at both ends) about 1
Million files. Probably a maximum of 5% of these files will change in any one
day.

Thanks

Kevin
