OK, with three patches (not to chown on the backup directory, not to
fsync directories and making softlinks a SpecialFileError) things look
good. I've done a backup of a directory with a couple of softlinks in
it, and received a couple of SpecialFileErrors in the log (as expected),
and I've done restore as well, and that all looks good.
The very first backup/restore I did hung during the restore, with
rdiff-backup taking more and more memory (I aborted it when it climbed
to 850Mb). However, I aborted, deleted the backup directory, and
repeated, and it all worked OK. In fact I did it three more times, so
maybe I wasn't quite awake the first time.
Thanks Ben. Will these patches be rolled into a release, either as hard
patches or as switches?
