Dunno, maybe try --no-change-dir-inc-perms?  I think someone else on FreeBSD
was having a problem that that switched solved.  Otherwise post more
information, with more verbosity (-v7 if it doesn't take too long), or see
if you can isolate the problem to a relatively small directory.
