Hello list,

ive been using rdiff-backup for 2 years now, but this evening it stopped working:

Yesterday i deleted files from the backup-folder (i know, wasnt too smart), I ran rdiff-backup this morning manually and it repaired the backup (it wrote zeroes i think) So far everything was fine again. This evening, the backup failed again - after serveral tries i get always the same output, see appended file. I also tried to delete the current_mirror... and mirror_metadata files as mentioned in the faq but the error still occurs. Unfortunetely i have no idea what the outut means.
I am using the latest version from the ppa on ubuntu jaunty.

I also use rdiff-backup for my /etc/ directory, these backups still work fine.

Is ther any way to save my backups?

Based on the output you sent, it looks like you've got a corrupt mirror_metadata file in the rdiff-backup-data directory. Can you run something like `zgrep "Tyae rag" -r rdiff-backup-data`? That should tell you which of those files are corrupted. From there you might be able to get it to work again by renaming those corrupt files and running rdiff-backup again.

The corruption is disturbing. I'm not sure how it would happen. Perhaps you've got a faulty CPU, RAM, or hard drive? You should probably check other files in your backup and see if they are also corrupted.
