Singapore, an island city state at the tip of the Malay Peninsula, connects east and west through its strategic location and plays a historic role as a trading port. Upon independence in 1965, Singapore was faced with a lack of physical resources and a small domestic market. In response, the Singapore government adopted a pro-business, pro-foreign investment, export-oriented economic policy framework, combined with state directed investments in strategic government-owned corporation. Singapore’s export-oriented strategy proved a success producing real average growth of 7.6 per cent annually from 1960 to 2004 and making it one of the highest GNP per capital in the world.

Come November 29th to December 1st 2005, a number of those companies who are part of this Singapore’s transformation will be in Tianjin at the Singapore Country Exhibition 2005(SCE 2005).
2005年11月29日至12月1日，许多参与了新加坡改革的公司将来到天津参加2005年新加坡国家展览（SCE2005）。
SCE 2005 is part of the “Singapore Week in Tianjin” initiative proposed by Tianjin’s Mayor Dai Xianglong and strongly supported by IE Singapore and the Tianjin Commerce Commission. The Singapore Week, through SCE 2005 aims to present a platform for Singapore government agencies and leading Singapore companies to promote and showcase their expertise and create greater awareness of the Singapore Brand amongst the Bohai business community.
SCE2005 是‘天津新加坡周 ’ 的一部分，是由天津市市长戴项龙提议，由新加坡国际企业发展局和天津商业委员会强烈支持举办的。新加坡周，通过 SCE2005 ，起到一个展示新加坡政府机构的平台作用，并且可以让新加坡知名公司宣传和展示他们的企业，创造了滨海地区各商业团体对新加坡品牌的认知机会。
Leading Singapore companies such as PSA, YCH, Surbana, Ascendas, SIA Cargo, DBS, YCH, Keppel, Singapore Exchange, Jurong International, Boustead, Hypertronics and Ernst & Young are amongst the many companies that have confirmed or expressed interest to participate in the event. IE Singapore, SPRING, STB and EDB will also be exhibiting in the event.

This event is a concerted effort by Singapore companies to promote the ‘ Singapore Brand name’ in Tianjin and improve the bilateral relationship between Tianjin City and Singapore.

Following hot on the heels of the visit by Tianjin’s Mayor Dai Xianglong to Singapore this August and Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong’s visit to Tianjin and Shenyang in October 2005, SCE 2005 will continue the momentum set by these high level visits to capture the business opportunities and business relationships. This will help increase the strong co-operation between Singapore and China‘s companies by seeking more win-win partnerships and further improve the already strong business relationships between the two countries.

Tianjin, China’s third largest city, lies at the crossroads of the Bohai region. It serves as a key economic centre for the Bohai region and acts as the gateway into North China. The Tianjin Economic & Technological Development Area (TEDA) is the most successful and active special economic zone in North China.
