X-Mailer: Sylpheed version 0.8.9 (GTK+ 1.2.10; i386-redhat-linux-gnu)

Hello All

Notes (after using Sylpheed 0.8.9 to get, read and send mail)

It comes with Redhat (version 9 puts it on cd 3.)

Running on top of Icewm and kdrive Sylpheed starts up almost instantly (box has
64MB main and 2MB video memory.)

After editing /etc/sysconfig/i18n to get the Greek locale most menu items are
now in Greek and composing in either Greek or English is no problem.

When using the correct font a simple View->Encoding manual change to 8859-7
allows reading of Greek characters that were originally encoded the same way
(annoying is the fact that the encoding is not saved and must be reapplied each
time Sylpheed is opened) but those Greek characters originally encoded as UTF-8
have (so far) remained unreadable no matter what options are applied. (This has
nothing to do with setxkbmap which only provides writing not reading.) In
contrast, Kmail with the same font (with several versions of Redhat with
Fluxbox and kdrive) always worked with either one manually selected.

Richard
