Well, I wrote a long time ago a similar MBR for Linux, although I
did in GNU as syntax (AT&T syntax). But after a year of using it I
wrote another one: a Linux loader that fits entirely in the MBR. It
needs a special disk layout in order to work, and is very limited
(doesn't handle command line, but can pass commands to the kernel,
etc...). In fact I wrote it for learning and for illustrate a lecture
about GNU as I gave in a Linux meeting. I haven't published it yet,
because although I use it in my box, is not suitable for newbies and
it has no documentation O:)).
The gzipped source is just 5.0KiB, would hurt anyone posting it
to the list? Anyway, if you want I can send you the original MBR I
wrote and/or the linux-loader-in-a-MBR ;))
