Hello All,
I just found about about RULE due to some postings on linux-kernel.
Im looking forward to being involved in the discussions here. And while
Im at it, I want to start one :-)
I use the fvwm 1 window manager. I started using it when it came out
because it was specifically designed for low memory, and I liked the way
it worked as well. As time went on, development on fvwm 1 stopped, being
superceeded by fvwm 2. I never switched to fvwm 2 both because low memory
consumption was no longer its primary design goal, and because the syntax
of the configuration file changed.
Fvwm seems to work fine. However I have heard that KDE and Gnome
applications work better when the window manager supports certain features
which I am sure fvwm lacks.
Does anyone know what these features are, what I am giving up by not
having them, or how difficult it would be add them to fvwm? Alternativly,
do you think there is a different window manager which I should be using?
I have tried a couple and was not really pleased with how difficult they
seemed to be to configure. But I must admit that I did not spend a lot
of time trying, I just switched back to fvwm when I couldnt figure out
how to do something. I might try harder if I had some good recomendations.
Thanks,
Jim
