Package: Gallium Library
System name: gallium

Project:

 Gallium Library

Authors:

 Jerome Slangen <address@hidden>

Abstract:

Gallium is intended to provide a free (licensed under the GNU LGPL*),
portable and API-compatible Carbon** library for the X Window System.

Objectives:

It shall bring to the Macintosh community of software developers the
possibility to port their Mac OS (8/9/X) applications to the de facto
standard windowing environment of the GNU system. Gallium will act as
a good citizen towards the rest of the community by building bridges
between the library and some other complementary GNU packages such as
GNUstep (free OpenStep/Cocoa** implementation) and Quesa (QuickDraw**
 compatible library).

The first objective is to build an API skeleton supporting the basic
 (graphics) and low-level (system) functionalities.

Later, the library will bring the human interface toolkit and various
portable multimedia capabilities to the X Window System.
