solpkg is a system not unlike the OpenBSD ports system, except its goal is to 
create Sun Solaris packages out of source code tarballs (usually free software 
packages).  This helps with the problem that source code and binaries are often 
available for Solaris for many free software packages, but the steps taken to 
build the binaries are either not given or are not given in a way that can be 
easily run after changes are made to a source package.

solpkg is a collection of makefiles that will run with standard Solaris make 
and will untar, patch, configure, build, and make a package that can be 
installed with Solaris package tools.  The makefile \"recipe\" for each package 
is very short, as most of the steps for package building 
are abstracted out into a global makefile.  Most people will use solpkg by 
grabbing the most recent CVS checkout and building packages from the makefiles.

The entire thing will be modified-BSD licensed.

It does not exist yet in public form.  It is currently a functional internal 
project.
