[Savannah-hackers] New gnudist and gnuftp machines

gnudist.gnu.org and gnuftp.gnu.org are being replaced with two new
machines hosted at Global NAPs, currently known as new-gnudist.gnu.org
and new-gnuftp.gnu.org.

Due to hardware issues, the installation of new-gnuftp was delayed.
That machine has not yet been configured.

new-gnudist.gnu.org and new-gnuftp.gnu.org on Monday, January 14, 2002
at 5:00pm EST will become gnudist.gnu.org and gnuftp.gnu.org,
respectively. At that time, what was gnudist.gnu.org and
gnuftp.gnu.org will become old-gnudist.gnu.org and old-gnuftp.gnu.org.

Anyone that has an account on gnudist or gnuftp has an account on
new-gnudist. After Jan 14 at 5pm EST, users should login to gnudist
to update the master copies of the GNU web and ftp trees. On gnudist,
/home/ftp is where the ftp archive is stored, and /home/www is where
the web archive is stored.

The home directories on new-gnudist are the same as were present on
gnudist. Home directories from gnuftp reside in a gnuftp directory
off of each user's home directory on new-gnudist. If you had an
account on gnuftp but not on gnudist, then your home directory from
gnuftp is your home directory on new-gnudist.

If you have an account on gnudist or gnuftp, please check to make sure
that you can login to new-gnudist.gnu.org.

We've made an effort to copy over the necessary files and merge
configurations together from both gnudist and gnuftp onto new-gnudist.
This process is still ongoing.

old-gnudist.gnu.org and old-gnuftp.gnu.org will be online until
February 1, 2002. So if any of your important stuff is hidden
somewhere on one of those machines, you'll need to copy it over to
new-gnudist before February 1.

>From now until the switch over occurs, if any modifications are made
to /etc or cronjobs on gnuftp or gnudist, please send notification to
<address@hidden>.

On Monday, January 14, 2002, from 1PM EST to 5PM EST, we request that
you not modify any files on either gnuftp or gnudist. The final sync
will be done then -- this includes updating home directories.

If you think you should be able to login to new-gnudist, but you
cannot, or have any other questions, please send email to
<address@hidden>.

Thanks.
