A package was submitted to savannah.gnu.org.
This mail was sent to address@hidden, address@hidden

Dale R. Williamson <address@hidden> described the package as follows:
License: gpl
Other License:
Package: Tops Computing Environment
System name: tops
This package wants to apply for inclusion in the GNU project

Description: Tops is a stack-based computing environment inspired by Forth.
Its four types of stack items--numbers, matrices, strings and arrays of
strings--are manipulated with commands called \"words.\"

Words can be defined as C functions, or they can be defined from existing
words. Over 1,500 pre-defined words perform tasks in fields such as linear
algebra, signal-processing, text manipulation, and networking.

Tops can be run interactively, or invoked in batch mode as a scripting language
using a sh-bang line such as #!/usr/local/bin/tops at the beginning of the
script.

The code has been running for several years, and runs daily on an unattended
machine and is used interactively (by real people) on other machines. It
should be considered mature.

Accompanying the program\'s C code are 13,000 lines of documentation,
tutorials, hints, and interactive man.

Purpose: The purpose of the project is to make the latest version of Tops
available to interested users and developers.

Goals: The goals of the project are: 1) to expand the capabilities of Tops in
the areas of matrix operations, signal-processing, networking, sound, and
voice; and 2) to organize the current documentation and tutorials into one or
more authoritative on-line texts.

Availability: A tar file, tops-2.4.1.tgz, has been submitted to Jaime Villate
and licensing issues have been discussed. Jaime will send the tar file to the
receiver of this registration.
