Subject: [Savannah-hackers] savannah.gnu.org: submission of (www) satellite prediction software

A package was submitted to savannah.gnu.org.
This mail was sent to address@hidden, address@hidden

Michael Teichgraeber <address@hidden> described the package as follows:
License: gpl
Other License:
Package: (www) satellite prediction software
System name: wsat
This package does NOT want to apply for inclusion in the GNU project

Wsat is a software package for prediction of visible passes of
satellites and calculating images with positions of satellites at
variable times. It provides both a command line interface and a CGI to
some back ends that do the jobs (predict; draw position graphics; list
information about available satellites; update satellite orbital
elements ...)

Goals: The software is not scientific-grade, so it does not calculate
e.g. re-entries of satellites, but it provides reliable information
about visible passes of e.g. MIR or ISS for four years now (as a set
of CGI programs on the web). The sources have not yet been made public; before
that I have tried to bring them from an ugly state into a auto{conf,make}
based, {maintain, port}able (and debianized) form, so
that interested people may play with it, perhaps provide their own
satellite passes prediction home page with means of this package or
just have the ISS position graphic at their root window.

Dependencies: zlib, libpng; a vector map of the earth (GSHHS, from the
author of GMT, in the public domain)

You can see the new--yet unlinked (i.e. no other page refers to
it)--home page at
http://www.stud.fernuni-hagen.de/q5631297/wsat/en/index.html .

All what you will see is part of the package or generated by
parts of it. Sorry, only the index is in english language at the
moment, I will translate the other pages soon.

A screenshot with the ISS position as background:

The four years old pages with the old, non-public software:

A source snapshot:

o sources that will be compiled into various binaries:
   http://www.stud.fernuni-hagen.de/q5631297/wsat/wsat.tar.gz
o architecure-independent data, such as HTML skelettons and pages,
the vector map and satellite elements data

The contents of the packages take (uncompressed) about 1.6 MB
and 2.0 MB.
