A package was submitted to savannah.gnu.org.
This mail was sent to address@hidden, address@hidden
Chad Kitching <address@hidden> described the package as follows:
License: other
Other License: This is the current license the software is licensed under
anyway, and I do not feel that it\'s appropriate to change the license at this
time. Later, if/when distinctive features are added, the license may be
relicensed under the GPL or LGPL, depending on the nature of the modifications.
I don\'t believe the licenses below would conflict -- the restrictions of the
licenses should be compatible with the GPL.
ISODE license:
The ISODE is openly available but is NOT in the public domain. You are allowed
and encouraged to take this software and build commercial products. However, as
a condition of use, you are required to ``hold harmless\'\' all contributors.
Permission to use, copy, modify, and distribute this software and its
documentation for any purpose and without fee is hereby granted, provided that
this notice and the reference to this notice appearing in each software module
be retained unaltered, and that the name of any contributors shall not be used
in advertising or publicity pertaining to distribution of the software without
specific written prior permission. No contributor makes any representations
about the suitability of this software for any purpose. It is provided ``as
is\'\' without express or implied warranty.
All contributors disclaim all warranties with regard to this software,
including all implied warranties of merchantability and fitness. In no event
shall any contributor be liable for any special, indirect or consequential
damages or any damages whatsoever resulting from loss of use, data or profits,
whether in action of contract, negligence or other tortuous action, arising out
of or in connection with, the use or performance of this software.
PP license:
PP is not proprietary and can be used for any purpose. The only restriction is
that suing of the authors for any damage the code may cause is not allowed.
Package: ISODE (X.500) and PP (X.400) environments
System name: isode
This package does NOT want to apply for inclusion in the GNU project
Description:
Initial goal of this project is to modernize the ISODE and PP packages to
support modern GNU systems, as well as other modern OS\'s. The package
implements the ISO standards, and includes ISO protocol stacks over TCP/IP and
X.25, an ASN.1 compiler, an X.500 server, and an X.400 MTA. The software is
quite archaic and needs bug fixes, etc. There\'s also some missing bits, such
as the X.400 message store (P7), X.400 P3, and some bits that are extremely
obsolete, such as the SNMP implementation. X.25 support for the Linux kernel
is also not available. Both the ISODE and PP packages are provided under an
X11-alike license. Both are freely distributable, however, you must \"hold
harmless\" the contributors, there are no waranties, and contributors names
cannot be used in advertising materials without permission.
Unfortunately, it\'s near impossible to find a current download site for the
entire package, including documentation. However, most of it can be found at
http://ftp.ost.eltele.no/pub/networking/isode/ among other mirrors.
