Have you looked at the start script contrib/lshd.debian.init in the
lsh distribution? Among other things, it has a friendly restart
target. It will tell the running lshd to stop listening on its socket
and not accepting any new connections, and then start a new server
process. So at least in theory, it should be possibly to upgrade and
restart lshd while logged in via lshd.
