Giampaolo Gallo <address@hidden> described the package as follows:
License: gpl
Other License:
Package: Database request broker
System name: dbrb
This package wants to apply for inclusion in the GNU project

Description:
This software, called dbrb, implements a client-server database independent
interface. Its architecture is based on a server program that interfaces to one
or more RDBMS and clients that interact with the server using a simple
protocol. The application program (in C, Perl, Php, Java etc.) does not talk
directly to the RDBMS but forwards queries to the dbrb server which in turn
forwards them to the database engine.

Supported free databases:

- mysql http://www.mysql.com
- postgresql http://www.postgresql.org

Although this project is released under the GNU GPL it providessupport for some
non-free databases:
- informix
- IBM-db2
- oracle
- msql-2

All these database are not all equally supported. The documentationis not yet
up to date.RDBMS are supported through modules that can be omitted without
compromising the software functionality.

The project already exists and is available for download at

http://www.iws.it/dbrb/dbrb-0.4.2.tar.bz2

The modules for the proprietary databases are available separately
at

http://www.iws.it/dbrb/dbrb-0.4.2-modules.tar.bz2

if their distribution will be found compatible with the GPL or the
LGPL.

Other Software Required:
