[Savannah-hackers] savannah.gnu.org: submission of enhanced Linux System

A package was submitted to savannah.gnu.org.
This mail was sent to address@hidden, address@hidden

John van V. <address@hidden> described the package as follows:
License: other
Other License: My code will go out w/ the current GPL...

However, I have been using perl as a substitute for awk, sed and much of shell
and I have a shruken perl to support this.

I would like to distribute this cutdown perl which is, of course, under the
perl artistic license. I can however make a script and send people to CPAN for
the raw materials.

Thanks, John
Package: enhanced Linux System Deployment
System name: elsd
This package does NOT want to apply for inclusion in the GNU project

Description:
##My project does this and this and will do that and that
##Approximately twenty lines explaining the project in detail.

Hello,
My project is a an enhancement to the typical root Linux/Unix user.

The user is called sys_adm and he/she lives in /opt/sys_adm.

sys_adm includes very secure acl standards, the sys_adm group can see the files
but only the user can execute them.

sys_adm includes a consistent cross platform compile and deployment system. It
creates packages in /opt/ (ex /opt/openssh) which includes all the libraries
needed by the package. Binaries and libraries used my many packages but not
necessarily distributed w/ a GNU/Linux are kept in /opt/bin or /opt/lib.

Each package has a typical init.d start/restart/shudown script as well as
version, intallation, usage and removal text files in their top directories.
The start-up scripts include binary and library path settings.

Deployment is done by \"emissions\", a tar/ssh/un-tar script which uses the tar
optput to document and catalog the deployment.

You get the general idea. While I have used it in big critical environments,
its present need is to enhance CDROM only GNU/Linuxes in \"micro enterprises\"
--small office/home networks.

After the explanation say:
It does not exist yet but I\'m working on it.
OR
It already exists and you can download the latest distribution at
http://mydomain.foo/dist.tar.gz

Unfortunately... the CD that it was stored on was corrupted :(
I do, however have the binary and top level directories. I am setting up my
own \"micro enterprise\" and I will be mirroring to
http://www.thelinuxsociety.net when it is reconstructed.

Other Software Required:
GPL Shells, Perl, Xterm, OpenSSH... just the usual GNU/Linux tools.

Other Comments:
Hope you like it !!

John van Vlaanderen, address@hidden

I would like to support it commercially, if home enterprise systems become
more popular.
