A package was submitted to savannah.gnu.org.
This mail was sent to address@hidden, address@hidden

Mik <address@hidden> described the package as follows:
License: gpl
Other License:
Package: Generalised business system
System name: kairo
This package wants to apply for inclusion in the GNU project

Description:
This project will provide ERP type constructs such as MRPII, CRP, Standard
accounting package (eg AP, AR etc), CRM and other business TVA (which
essentially amount to one thing). It will be configurable for all types of tax
and accounting environments, and all measurement types. It will also have an
advanced analysis tools interface to allow for analysers eg statistical, nueral
networks etc. It will have a data acquisition interface for data acquisition.
But primarily, the system will be usable by lesser developed countries.

The database will be object oriented (whether by methodology or system), allow
for BLOBs and all the nice things databases do.

Explanation:

Business systems like many systems are based on the database. These systems are
fairly standard and will not be discussed here. The key words are

Generalised = admin can add or subtract attributes, do operations on them etc
but this is not dependent on the environment the system lives in. For instance,
a car rental company will have a different sales structure than a commodity
seller, or a countries language may not be english. One may say that this is a
database but consider it as a schema that fits all businesses.

Advanced analytical tools interface = Analytical tools such as statistical
analysis tools etc should be interfaced in a consistent way with system. As I
am not a mathematician I leave it to those others better suited to this than I
am.

Usable by lesser developed countries =
To explain, one must understand the IT systems that are available to these
countries.
1. Older hardware: Tend to range from a 286 to P4 (very few).
2. Minimal investment in hardare systems.
3. High network bandwidth access (but at a high price however this is falling)
4. Ethernet networks (10/100 Cat 5)
5. Internet access (mostly with a 56kbps modem but few with digital lines)
6. Variable age in browser software.
7. Increasing use of free alternative software.
8. SMS usage for communication high
9. Insufficient funds to purchase established systems such as SAP, JDE etc.
10. Older 800x600 or less monitors (all SVGA)
11. PC Clones
12. Client has 64MB memory
13. 4MB video cards
14. High computer literacy and literacy all round.

As database consume storage, there is nothing much one can do except maintain a
relatively expensive server system. The client side however needs nothing more
than a browser that supports HTML ver ? and possibly javascript for client side
processing.

The plan is to create a browser interface and GUI, intranet/internet capable
business database that includes all the \'modern\' TVA\'s and standard
requirements such as security as well as something advanced such as the
analytical interface and data acquisition interface.

It does not exist yet but I\'m working on it. I have completed a rough draft of
the debtor / sales systems.

Other Software Required:
javascript
PHP
postgres
apache
Linux OS
Netscape ? or IE ?

Other Comments:
The software will essentially increase efficiency is lesser developed countries
and hence contribute to the productivity and increase in wealth of those
countries.
