Yes, you're right; the name of the CVS root directory should
not have a trailing slash. We thought we had already fixed
that in the documentation, but there were a few leftovers
I've just fixed. Thanks for your report.

Hi!
have a look on pages like
https://savannah.nongnu.org/cvs/?group=maitretarot
If I type cvs
address@hidden:/cvsroot/maitretarot/
co maitretarot (notice the ending slash for the -d
option), it will work, but then, cvs update -Pd will
not on my freebsd.
here is the error message:
$ cvs update -Pd
cvs update: in directory .:
cvs update: ignoring CVS/Root because it does not
contain an absolute pathname.
cvs update: No CVSROOT specified! Please use the `-d'
option
cvs [update aborted]: or set the CVSROOT environment
variable.
now, here is the fix:
rm -rf maitretarot
cvs
address@hidden:/cvsroot/maitretarot
co maitretarot (notice that I removed the ending slash)
And cvs update -Pd will work!
I'm not asking for support because I found a way to
have it work, but check this out and if I'm wrong
anywhere, tell me! If I'm right, please change the doc :)
This does not appear on GNU/Linux. I have the problem
on my freebsd-4.7 with cvs-1.11.1p1
