Bin Ren <address@hidden> described the package as follows:
License: gpl

Package: Decentralized and Universal File System for Hurd
System name: dufs
Type: GNU

Description:
I\'d like to setup a project to design and implement distributed file system
for GNU/Hurd. Since Hurd is based upon GNU/Mach, which is a well-designed
micro-kernel with inherent support for a distributed system, a distributed file
system can be the first yet significant step. Generally speaking, it\'ll
provide 2 functions: file interface and directory service. It\'s expected to be
completely decentralized with high reliability and security. Some cutting-edge
technologies such as \"Recovery-Oriented Computing\" and \"Recursive Recovery\"
can be applied or experiented. Cache consistency is also an essential issue.
Besides, it should adapt well to both local area high-throughput networks and
wide area networks. It may finally incorporate FTPFS and provide a uniform
entry to various functions like Email and Web browsing.

The project doesn\'t exist yet. I\'m reading relevant source codes of FS and
Hurd. This complex task need contributions from various people and may take
quite some time. It\'s very very challenging and will introduce GNU/Hurd into a
new dimension: high performance clusters.
