Description:
Project WW2 The Last Conflict
(PBEM Game)

PRESENTATION

This document is a short presentation of the project. Some informations
presented here could be modified after the start of the project.

This project is a pbem (play-by-email) game based on the WW2. It will be a free
game. This project is under GPL licence, and is registered on the SourceFoge
website (http://www.sourceforge.net).

1. Game Running :
This game is a wargame by email. Each player leads a country or army during the
WW2 conflict. For each major country, there are a leader (Nation Leader) and
some military leaders (such as Air Army Commander-in-chief, Naval Army, Ground
Army, etc...). All the country players work together, but they play a different
role and are responsible of a army group (or nation).

This game is a role playing game mixed with a wargame. All the informations
(Order of Battle, Map, Diplomacy, Economy...) will be as exact as possible.

The player will only need a mail client to send theirs orders and received the
turn reports. The game server will receive and process orders and run the
different game turn. It will be possible, to create a website to send order
directly by forms on the game website.

2. Development Informations :
Some constraints are defined such as progamming language, architecture, and the
running of the pbem game. But theses constraints will be exactly defined in the
different technical documentation. The constraints are :
- programming language : Java (JDK 1.3 and some others API such as JavaMail,
Jaxp, ...) and C,C++
- server : Apache http server (or jakarta-tomcat)
- OS : Unix, Linux or Windows (platform independant)
- development method : Unified Software Development Process and UML
- tools : not currently defined but free tools.

The project (logical architecture) is subdivided in several components (this
list isn\'t definitive) :
- IA Module (for management of the neutral countries)
- GUI Module (if a graphical client program is created)
- Processing Module (for the running of game turn)
- Map Management Module (world map management)
- Report Generator and Parser Module (order parsing, and the players\' reports
creation)
- Tools Module (format, I/O, datas, ...)
- Communication Module (mail, connection, ...)
- ...

Other Software Required:
Apache http server (or jakarta-tomcat)
Sun Java VM (and standard extenstion library such as javamail, jndi, JDBC, ...)
Sun JDK 1.4.x

Other Comments:
Please see below the currents tasks to be done (in order) :
- the specifications writing
- the planning design
- the writing of :
o the Software Quality Assurance Plans
o the Software Requirements Specifications
o the Software Design Descriptions
- the differents components\' implementation
- test and validation of the version 1.0

After the game implementation (version 1.0), a new version will be created :
the modification of the pbem game in a multiplayer (LAN) game.
