A package was submitted to savannah.nongnu.org
This mail was sent to address@hidden, address@hidden
Stéphane Konstantaropoulos <address@hidden> described the package as follows:
License: gpl
Other License:
Package: Lumiere
System name: lumiere
Type: non-GNU
Description:
Lumiere
Lumiere is a GNOME frontend to mplayer the great movie player for *nix. and to
libxine from the xine project
Mplayer is really good, but unfortunately it is a bit difficult to use IMHO. I
wanted to integrate it into the GNOME as a Bonobo component so that I could
preview, or even view media files (mostly videos) from within the Nautilus file
manager.
See it as Galeon for Mozilla, a Gnomification of a great piece of software
I recently discovered the API of libxine, it seems really clear, so I use it
from now on, xine is a bit slower but as it is in a shared library, much more
things can be done with it. This is my first attempt at GTK+ and at Bonobo
programming, so it is VERY buggy
FEATURES:
# Backend Selection: lumiere supports mplayer AND libxine, use the one you like
best or just switch according to the files.
# 3D OpenGL renderer: lumiere can play your videos on a 3D scene, with moving
objects and the video mapped onto them. Quite nice, it always impresses the
friends ;-)
# Playout: Lumiere plays .avi (any codec), .mpeg (any type), .wmv, .mov (a bit
slow), .wma from files or http (just do lumiere http://whatever.avi).
# Configuration with GConf it is quite configurable. Almost as much as mplayer
allows so far, more to be added.
# Nautilus Viewer Lumiere can play from file from inside Nautilus, once set as
default viewer for .avi and .mov ...
# DVD playback much on request, it is available but more than alpha, I don\'t
have hardware to test.
# Fullscreen could be ameliorated but works with latest metacity, works fine
with any sawfish version, if you use a pixmap GTK2 theme, the background will
not be black, I suggest the crux theme, much faster.
Other Software Required:
mplayer (http://www.mplayerhq.hu) GPL
xine-lib (http://www.xinehq.de) GPL
GNOME 2
libgtkglare 1.99
Other Comments:
I already submitted the projects before, there was a discussion whether mplayer
was GPL or not, we found out that it was, so I submit again
