Paulo Ferreira <address@hidden> described the package as follows:
License: gpl
Other License:
Package: xtv - simple and extensible tv viewer/de
System name: xtv
Type: GNU

Description:
xtv aims to be a simple and easy to extend program for capture of video through
both the first (v4l) and second (v4l2) video for linux APIs. The main
difference from other tv software is that we aim to implement cablecrypt
descrambling (such as that in cabletv, but more generic).

What motivated us to start a new project was the lack of software to descramble
video for linux in a generic way (cabletv relies on a particular chip, bt878,
and refuses to function on boards with other hardware), while there is a large
choice of windows software for this purpose. We believe we can help to close
that gap.

We do not have much code now (we merely open the v4l device and display an X11
window), but the few lines we have are on
http://gape.ist.utl.pt/~paulo/xtv.tar.gz

Other Software Required:
This software expects to be linux specific (it relies on the v4l interface).
Otherwise, it only requires the X11 libraries.
