H D Moore <address@hidden> described the package as follows:
License: other
Other License: The project is dual-licensed under GPLv2 and the Perl Artistic
license.
Package: Metasploit Framework
System name: msf
Type: non-GNU

Description:
The Metasploit Framework is a consistent interface for developing, testing, and
using advanced exploit code. The current development version supports three
distinct interfaces (command-line, slick console, web interface) and allows
new payloads, encoders, nop engines, and exploit modules to be dropped in and
used. The current 2.0 tree has been in heavy development for almost six months,
it has a dozen or so beta users, and two developers. The end result will be a
platform that can be used for security research and professional services (ala
Core Impact, Immunitysec's CANVAS, etc).

Instead of focusing on a specific new technology, this projects demonstrates
how many of the recently developed tools and techniques can be integrated
to create an advanced exploit platform. The significance lies in ability
immediately integrate new technologies into your entire exploit
collection without having to change a single line of code in the exploits
themselves. Additionally, the currently available code has many of the
features needed for professional security consultants (mulitple IDS
evasion systems, huge set of custom payloads, integrated session logging,
automated capabilities, etc).

The current public version is 1.0 and available from the metasploit.com web
site:

http://www.metasploit.com/releases.html

A snapshot of a development version and accompanying presentation is available
from:

http://www.metasploit.com/hitb/

Please do not publicly link to the "HITB" version or otherwise make its
presence known to the general public, there is a reason its been in development
for a full month after release.

Other Software Required:
The only required dependency is Perl 5.6.0+
