Summary:  libmilter not found

I am attemting to install milter-spamc on RedHat 2.1.  I have commercial 
sendmail installed (sendmail.com) with milter pre-compiled.  I have sucessfully 
installed libsnert but milter-spamc complains that it cannot find libmilter 
during the configure process:

checking for smfi_main in -lmilter... no
checking for smfi_main in -lmilter... no
checking for smfi_main in -lmilter... no

configure: WARNING: Sendmail's libmilter is required.


My system shows:
# locate libmilter

/usr/lib/libmilter.so.2
/usr/lib/libmilter.so
/usr/local/sendmail/smmta-8.12/lib/libmilter.so.2

My sendmail compilation shows:
# sendmail -bt -d0.9 < /dev/null | grep MILTER
MILTER MIME7TO8 MIME8TO7 NAMED_BIND NETINET NETINET6 NETUNIX


How can I tell milter-spamc where libmilter is installed?

Duh! Sorry, previous post regarding wrong milter... 
Here's the output of spamass-milt:

checking for mi_stop in -lmilter... no
configure: error: Cannot find libmilter

...Not able to find libmilter. Please help!
