Follow-up Comment #1, sr #106026 (project administration):

I think this should be the default option.  Please display dates in the
YYYY-MM-DD format, as these is the least confusing way to do it and the best
fit for an international community.

Just today we got confused about a date on the Savannah tracker because of
the American date format :-) The discussion consisted of 
:: but I thought that bug was last updated a month ago"
-- uh no, I just got the reply yesterday
:: oh wait, hang on, I was confused by the date

And being of an extremist bent, I think it's not worth trying to offer any
options here.  ISO 8601 or else!
