Actually, no, for the record, this was ssh:

$git pull
Enter passphrase for key '/home/REDACTED/.ssh/id_rsa':
remote: Counting objects: 166, done.
remote: fatal: unable to create thread: Resource temporarily unavailable

$grep url .git/config 
        url = REDACTED [at] git.sv.gnu.org:/srv/git/lmi.git

I haven't had any problem since the original report, so it must
have been just a transient overload.
