Description:

  The intention is to write a PHP PECL extension that provides Drupal
(http://drupal.org) users access to high speed versions of the Drupal Core.

I would prefer to host this project on the main Drupal site, however, PHP
PECL extensions are written in C and Drupal only hosts PHP code.

Drupal is itself GPL (http://drupal.org/node/7765) itself. Since this project
is a direct derivative of Drupal's core code (only written in another
language, C) this project will also be GPL.
