I have spent hours ploughing through the internet looking for a decent
graphical interface (web-based or other) for configuring Nagios 3.0 - but to
no avail! There simply is no decent config utility out there that works with
Nagios 3.0!! All the config utilities I found seemed to have been abandoned
halfway through development!

I scoured NagiosExchange.org and came accross a PHP-based config generator
that generated a basic configuration of a host for you and displayed it
on-screen. From there you had to copy and paste the configuration into your
nagios hosts.cfg file manually. It was called "Simple Config Generator" and
created by [NICK] (http://www.linickx.com). Although being very basic, and
designed for Nagios 2.0, this gave me an idea - WRITE MY OWN!

Now, I had no idea how to do this! When I started this I knew absolutely
nothing about PHP Scripting! I had this idea and no clue on where to start.So
I started playing with the scripting in "Simple Config Generator", changing it
and seeing what effect it has. It also helped that I was not completely
unfamiliar with programming. I did some VB scripting when I was studying web
design as well as Turbo Pascal when I was at school. I quickly figured out the
syntax used by PHP and started with the project.

It took me about two weeks to get Ignoramus where it is now, and this is by
no means the finished product. I plan to turn it into a complete config
generator and editor, as well as a tool to configure every aspect of the
Nagios network monitoring system. This is simply the beginning! As with all
great ideas, it is starting as something small.
