Follow-up Comment #1:
Hi Aubrey,
Sorry for the delay, there is a bit of backlog after the summer Holidays. I
am reviewing your submission on behalf of Savannah, but since there is no code
to review there is little we can do to move forward. I suggest that you close
this submission and resubmit when you are ready.
As to the status of binary data, you might want to ask your question on the
savannah-hackers-public mailing list for an authoritative answer. From my
limited understanding as a non-lawyer, the legal status of raw data is that it
cannot be copyrighted in the US. In the EU raw data (like phone databases) can
be copyrighted by the organization collecting the data, so it would be enough
to have a written statement from Dr Vacca to the effect that the data are
placed in the public domain (a file distributed along with the tarball would
be enough). The status of the program used to generate the data is not
important, as it just follows a mathematical model which cannot be
copyrighted. But again, please subscribe to savannah-hackers-public
<https://savannah.gnu.org/mail/?group=administration> if you want to be sure.
Thanks, Alex.
