Actually, the "log" command should already do this I think (except, that
it won't do _current_ screen contents, just whatever is drawn from that
point, so you have to force the running program to redraw, or else
activate the log at the start. So it'd just be the
term-emulator/PNG-generator program that'd need to be written.

I actually find the project to be a bit of a fun proposal, and find that
to be something of an incentive already. However, I'm not sure it's
_enough_ of an incentive: it'd be a lot of work. I'm something of a
terminal-and-ISO-2022 sequence obsessive, which is why it'd be fun. But
if barely anyone were using it, well... :)

At any rate, it will take some work, and my time is somewhat limited
(especially since I may be taking over as maintainer of a GNU project,
which should eat up whatever available time I now have). So, I don't
think I'd want to do all the work myself!
