And apparently fedora may do weird stuff to your term definition
http://pkgs.fedoraproject.org/cgit/rpms/screen.git/commit/?id=d141e2e66048e53a0a54d1a6af393cf8e098fe59
so you may want to check if it isn't source of your problem...
try setting "term screen" or "term screen-256color" in your .screenrc
