did you arrange for them to start? i have this in my /etc/rc.local
su sks -c 'cd /home/sks ; /home/sks/bin/sks db &'
su sks -c 'cd /home/sks ; /home/sks/bin/sks recon &'
and that makes sure that sks starts on boot, as the proper user and in the
right directory.
