GDL again proved to be a pain. But after a night long duel, it seems
to have been tamed.

First of all, we really need to start expressing our layout in XML
instead of code, because fullscreening will involve getting rid of
some portions of our layout and then restoring them later on. Doing
this in code is almost impossible. I have taken this oppurtunity to
widen the left pane and reduce the height of the search basket
slightly. If you don't like it, shout. These are easy to tweak,
anyway.

So here is the first of the XML patches:
