To the collectively evolving,
The Swarm team at the Santa Fe Institute is pleased to announce that
Swarm 1.4.1 is ready. Swarm 1.4.1 is a stability release coinciding
with distribution of a new Swarm CD-ROM [*][**].
In addition to bug fixes, autoconfiguration improvements, and
additional quality assurance programs in the test suite, Swarm 1.4.1
has four significant new features:
1) Support for reading and writing string data with shallow HDF5
serialization. Strings are stored as an index into a string
table, a scheme which is interoperable with the way R stores
string data.
2) A new method setKeepEmptyFlag: for tagging Schedules such that they
will be kept even when completed and empty.
This flag is set true by default.
3) The documentation for the random number library has been
updated and integrated with swarmdocs DocBook SGML.
4) Binary packages for Swarm, HDF5, and R for Debian 2, Redhat 5.[12],
and Solaris 2.5.1. As always, many thanks go to Paul Johnson for
his hard work making Swarm convenient and accessible to Redhat users!
The Swarm 1.4 series will be the last major release before Swarm 2.0 for Java.
[*] See http://www.santafe.edu/projects/swarm/cdrom.html for details.
[**] Swarm 1.4.1 also coincides with my Mom's birthday!
Happy birthday Mom!
