I used to have this very problem myself (under Redhat 3.0.3), and solved it
using suggested hack #1 below (don't build bltwish).
I have recently installed tcl, tk, and BLT under 3.0.3 and 4.0, in separate
directories away from the standard places these programs usually get
installed by linux. I was even able to generate the missing dynamic versions
of the libraries, with some twiddling of the make files.
See my message "Installation blues: my solution" from 11/1, which has
attached to it my Makefiles. With modifications for your local setup, what
worked for me may work for you.
