What gcc version are you using? When I tried to compile heatbugs on Solaris
with a 2.7.2.x gcc I got the same errors. After installaing the 2.8.1 gcc (from
the Swarm CD-ROM) it worked.
As an aside: Why does it on

say: With the Sparc, avoid GCC 2.8?
