Swarm 2.0 binary packages installable via Solaris 7's `pkgadd' command
are now available at:
ftp://ftp.santafe.edu/pub/swarm/sparc-solaris-2.7
To install, untar the file of interest, and run (as root):
# cd /tmp
# gzip -dc a-file-below.tar.gz | tar xf -
# pkgadd -d /tmp
The most significant file found here is SDGgcc-2.95.1.tar.gz.
This package includes gcc 2.95 configured for use with GNU binutils
(this configuration is needed to build Objective C shared libraries),
GNU binutils 2.9.1 itself, and a copy of GNU make. The Objective C
compiler is modified to provide type encoding support for the `long
double' type, and a fix to avoid the annoying "type and size of
dynamic symbol" warning.¹
Also provided:
- A new version of the HDF5 library. HDF 1.2 now supports the building of
shared libraries (and the Solaris 7 binary package is built in this way).
http://hdf.ncsa.uiuc.edu/HDF5/
- R 0.65.0 equipped with HDF5 support
http://www.ci.tuwien.ac.at/R
- Kaffe 1.0b4
http://www.kaffe.org
- A new build of zlib-1.1.3 configured as a shared library
http://www.cdrom.com/pub/infozip/zlib
- Swarm 2.0, configured with HDF5 and Java support (using the Kaffe
package above)
The remaining packages (Tcl/Tk 8.0, BLT 2.4, libpng-1.0.3, and Xpm)
are untouched since the 1.4.1 release.
¹ For those of you fanatical about not using binaries built with undisclosed
modified sources, the patch is available at:
ftp://ftp.santafe.edu/pub/swarm/needed-software/diffs/objc.diff
==================================
Swarm-Support is for discussion of the technical details of the day
to day usage of Swarm. For list administration needs (esp.
[un]subscribing), please send a message to <address@hidden>
with "help" in the body of the message.
