Colormap Question

Thanks Marcus, that got me going.  But, of course, no good deed goes unpunished.

Colormap has a setGrey method.  I have set colors in the range "grey 15"-> "grey 30" and then drawn an ellipse, but I see nothing.  (I filled the space with white prior to drawing.)  I can draw the same thing in color just fine.  Any ideas?
