I've had a compile-athon here, whipping up stuff.

1. RPM of hdf5-1.2.1.

http://lark.cc.ukans.edu/~pauljohn/Swarm/Swarm-2.0_RPMSforRH6/hdf5-1.2.1-1.i386.rpm

2. RPM of gdb snapshot

same directory as previous
gdb-4.20000204-1.i386.rpm

This unpacks to /usr/local/gdb-4.20000004/ but you can just copy the
executable from the bin dir anywhere in your path if you want.

3. Swarm 2000-02-03 for i386, i586 and i686. These are provided to
encourage testing and bug reporting. I've extolled the virtues of the
swarm-devel tree recently in the list.

Look in the subdirectories
i386
i586
i686

I have only the RPMS to go along with KAFFE java kit users. Can't get
the Sun JDK one to compile.

THESE NEW RPMS REQUIRE HDF5 version 1.2.1.
