I think that was a linker bug, but it has been a long time since I've
used Solaris 2.5.1.  If you install GNU binutils and then GCC with the
--with-gnu-as and --with-gnu-ld options, you don't have to use 
the --disable-shared option (which results in faster model link times).

Otherwise, you might try linking apps with:

  make EXTRALIBS="-lswarm -lobjc"
