no, it only gets printed while the mouse is over the panel.

now, this works excellent on my system! thank you.
BTW, if anybody is interested in a gtk widget (based on gdk-pixbuf and
gnome-canvas) which allows loading/saving/displaying and images and
direct rgb pixel manipulation offering some interactive features like
zoom/pan/select_area, contact me.
once it matures a little more i will also post it somewhere as GPL.
