Dear All,

I am trying to get going with Swarm but am finding some nasty problems on the road.

I am working with Netbeans as the Java IDE and have the JHeatbug program compiling and "running" (almost).

All the correct settings have been made: path to the C:\Swarm-2.2.1\bin directory, set swarmjar on my path and mounted it in NetBeans. All that works fine. I confirmed this with an mail in the archives from http://www.santafe.edu/projects/swarm/archive/list-archive.0107/0143.html

However when I hit the start button the program crashes with an error "The Memory could not be written" and a stack dump as given.

Exception drawSelfOn: Heatbug
java.lang.NullPointerException
        at com.c3ismc.simul.swarm.sim.jheatbug.HeatbugObserverSwarm.buildObjects(HeatbugObserverSwarm.java:242)
        at com.c3ismc.simul.swarm.sim.jheatbug.StartHeatbugs.main(StartHeatbugs.java:42)
Exception in thread "main"

When I comment out the offending, line the program crashes a little later - same problem... when it gets to address level failures it gets a little out of my league I'm afraid.

System description:

Windows 2000 Prof
Netbeans:     3.3.1
Swarm:         2.2.1

Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated!

Many thanks in advance.
